Anniversary of William Tell's Shot

710 years ago today: under threat of execution by the Lord of Altdorf, William Tell shoots an apple off he son's head with a crossbow. (A second quarrel was on hand for the Lord if the first didn't work.)

  1. I can't let this post pass without mention of the overture, specifically the most recognizable part of it.

A rousing piece of music, and a prime example of cultural drift. I doubt them durn kids these days even know who William Tell is, let alone the Lone Ranger.

Help! I'm turning into a coot, possibly even a curmudgeon!

    1. Great reference! You know, on reflection, I myself am not sure of why I connect this to the Lone Ranger intro, because that's not a show I ever remember watching.
